Frozen S’mores! (at Dominique Ansel Bakery)
This sweet treat wins points on the novelty scale. I love making s’mores in a toaster oven, since I don’t find myself around campfires often.
The Dominique Ansel version of this dessert is vanilla bean ice cream dipped in a chocolate/graham cracker mixture surrounded by a marshmallow coating. It is served on a stick after being toasted using a kitchen torch.
The marshmallow coating was a bit too thick, the chocolate/graham cracker layer too thin and the vanilla ice cream inside not creamy enough. I’m guessing the marshmallow layer has to be thick enough to insulate the ice cream from melting during the toasting process. Overall, I found it too sweet. It earns points for looking like a campfire marshmallow, but now I’m wishing for some graham crackers, hershey’s milk chocolate and kraft mini jet-puffed marshmallows so I can make s’mores.
